Issues with Cowon X5L after Rockbox/CF Card upgrade
(1/1)
videoF:
Hello,
I have replaced the HDD (20 GB) of my X5L with a CF-Card (64 GB / Transcend) and installed Rockbox 3.7.1 on it. After that, I put my ~ 6500 tracks on it ( ogg / mp3 ).
The CF card is formatted with Paragon Partition Manager with 32 Sectors/Cluster -> 16K Bytes/Cluster.
All went well, but sometimes I have some strange issues with the player.
Let's assume I have loaded 10 tracks into the current playlist.
1. If I skip forward to the next track, the next track starts either immediately ( for 70 % ) , but sometimes ( for 30 % ) the X5L needs approximately 5 sec to skip to the next track.
2. If I add more tracks to the current playlist ( e.g. a complete folder with 12 tracks ) I get a short message with the number of added tracks. Sometimes the number is correct ( message remains only for less than a second ) but sometimes Rockbox told me that 0 tracks are added ( message remains approximately 5 sec ) . But when I take a look into the current playlist I can see that the tracks are nevertheless added to the playlist.
So the message is not correct.
This happens with adding new tracks (Insert Next/Last/Shuffled) and also with replacing the current playlist (Play Next).
3. If the new tracks are added to the playlist, I return to the 'Now Playing' screen.
If I try to skip to the next track, sometimes the player freezes completely. It plays the active title, but it is not reacting to any of the buttons.
No skip, no volume change, no other button reactions.
The only thing I can do is holding the PowerOff Button for approximately 10 sec to switch the player off.
After a restart there is the old current playlist active.
4. Sometimes when I have to restart the X5L after a problem ( see 3. ) Rockbox can't be started. Error : File not found. >:(
I connected the X5L to my PC and the partition is still there, but all files disappeared. If I try to recover the files with 'PC Inspector File Recovery' this is possible. But a new install of Rockbox and a copy of all tracks from PC to X5L is faster.
It looks like the partition table, the FAT or something similar is corrupt.
For me it looks as if the player has sometimes problems to access the CF Card.
More worse is that the player is destroying in rare cases important file structures on the CF card.
Can I do anything to avoid these problems ?
Do I have to format the CF Card in a special way ( Sectors/Cluster Size ) ?
Or is my CF-Card (Transcend / 64 GB) perhaps not fully compatible for X5L/Rockbox ?
Any ideas ?

Hello,
I found the solution to some points by myself.
Problem 2. After the message that there are 0 tracks added there is a very (very) short message saying e.g. 12 ( the correct number of tracks ) tracks are added. But this message disappears so quick that I don't saw it. ( my mistake )
Problem 3.+4. I took another program to format the CF card ( FAT32Formatter ) and all problems with freezing and deleted folders are gone. ;D
Problem 1. The player sometimes still needs 5 sec to skip to the next track. But this is not a real problem for me.
So all is OK for me now.
