odd Battery Issue on my Sansa E Series first gen

(1/1)

beatnik:
well one day all of the sudden my battery would no longer hold a charge? like the day before it was fine and the next day i would charge it and watch the battery monitor go 100, 99, 98 ..... and so on one percent per sec so I though no biggie and purchases a replacement battery which is also 1300 mAh rather than the OEM batter which is 750 mAh although when i replaced the battery It did the SAME thing!??? So I have contacted the company and they are sending me a new one as i said i received it DOA as thats all i could think it could be.

Now I have 2 things that could have been the problem with the new battery.

One: I may have not charged the battery to its full potential although it should have held the half charge it come with correct? so i am thinking the battery was DOA

Two: I had not Updated the Version of Rockbox i Was Using so i have Since Upgraded to the Current release of the date of this post. Although IDK why Rockbox could have anything to do with battery (besides incorrect status reporting? although it worked before)

Lastly my plans are when i receive this battery (should be today) is to charge it for 24 hours before use. Also with the Rockbox update I am hoping this will work as DOA batteries do happen so i am hoping that is the case.

Although to those of you that own a Sansa e series could the player be dead? everything works flawlessly it just seams their is some problem with the battery??? I know Rockbox does some things like overclocks the CPU but AFAIK everything has been done correctly and should not cause a problem. (esp since the Rockbox devs got some limited help from Sansa AFAIK) Although this is a 4+ year old player is it possibly just too old and its time for me to buy a Fuze? (as of this posting a v2 Fuze costs about $50 and a E series costs $100+ and is hard to find other than used on eBay now is that just because they are rare now that they are a discontinued device with no more support from Sansa and they do not even refurbish them anymore or is thier something about the Fuze that people do not like)

In all I hope I do not have to buy a Fuze as currently the newest version (i suppose V3) which is the only Fuze Available from Sansa's website is not Rockbox supported, is anyone working on it? It had a different design IDK about the GUI but the UI is certainly different.

Basically my last question (if you read all of this i thank you) Would you get the current Fuze and wait for it to be supported by Rockbox or buy the older version which is supported now (ROCKBOX is important but having a player in general, that is not my cell phone, is something I need)? So those with more knowledge than I, I ask what should I do or what would you do in this situation? I would like my Sansa To last Forever but i know its not and is $50 worth it to replace a 4 year old player or if it works when i get the new battery keep it till it dies. (or the battery does again as at that point IDK if their will be any available when the players become almost non existent)
