Scroll text on one line at a time?
« on: February 08, 2011, 11:05:14 AM »
Plunged through the manual, forum and search, can't find info on this:

I'm writing a theme with 3 scrolling lines, but it is pretty confusing to look at when they're actually scrolling!
I've tried adjusting the scroll parameters, but to no avail so far.

Is it possible to have them scroll one after the other (I think I've seen this on an MP3 player, maybe the Zen)?
I know that I can combine the info on one line and present it one at a time.

BTW, I'm running the simulator for the Sansa Clip+ on Windows, while waiting for the hw to be delivered...

Regards, Ole

not currently doable

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

A trick I often do to simulate this, is using alternating sublines [%t() tag]. It's not *exactly* the same, but it's fairly close. In the 3 lines case you mention, it would be something like this:

First line, scroll for 8 seconds (or your preferred interval), don't scroll for 16 seconds
Second line, don't scroll for 8 seconds, scroll for 8 seconds, don't scroll for 8 seconds
Third line, don't scroll for 16 seconds, scroll for 8 seconds

As you can see, no line will scroll simultaneously with another.

Yes, I don't think that "not currently doable" *quite* fits here, I think it should be more "not currently doable in a way that's immediately obvious and/or sane" ;)

I too have used the same approach as audio-i to implement scrolling lines, even adding various conditional content/timing switches into the mix when I was feeling more adventurous.

It's certainly possible, but it can get ridiculously complicated in a hurry if you have grand ideas.

A very easy (and readable) way of doing it, does the trick.

Thanks all,
Ole
