But I found a little trick to avoid this : when you put files on your device, also copy a firmware on it (the .bin file patched with the bootloader). You don't have to copy all the rockbox install, just this file. Then, when you disconnect the player, it will go through the firmware update, which is much quicker than the database update !
While there is the risk of filesystem corruption, it is FAR lesss risky to simply force the OF to power down during the database update (by holding Power for a while until it cuts off - up to 30 seconds). The chances of bricking with this method are slim to none, and in fact hasn't even caused any noticeable file corruption for me (so far - your mileage may vary).'Tis a shame that the old "read-only trick" no longer works with newer Sansas.
