Tired of waiting for the OF database update ?

Hi

I own a Fuze (v2) and every time I put music files on my device, once disconnected, I have to wait for the OF to update its database (which I never use). And since I added a microSD card, the database update became veeeeeeeeery long ...

But I found a little trick to avoid this : when you put files on your device, also copy a firmware on it (the .bin file patched with the bootloader). You don't have to copy all the rockbox install, just this file. Then, when you disconnect the player, it will go through the firmware update, which is much quicker than the database update !  ;D
It will update the database only the next time you boot the OF.

By the way, that brings the question : how is it going with the USB mode in rockbox ? Is it close to going in a release ?

Cheers

It's also much more risky than the database update. If e.g. for some reason the battery runs out while you're doing this, you will have real problems.

I would really recommend against doing this.

While there is the risk of filesystem corruption, it is FAR lesss risky to simply force the OF to power down during the database update (by holding Power for a while until it cuts off - up to 30 seconds). The chances of bricking with this method are slim to none, and in fact hasn't even caused any file corruption for me (so far - your mileage may vary).

'Tis a shame that the old "read-only trick" no longer works with newer Sansas.

Progweed:
It's possible to delete the OF's database. After that you have to fill the internal memory to the brim to prevent the OF from recreating the database files.

I described the procedure here, it's simple:

Great trick there, thanks!
