Clip+ microSD card playlist problem
« on: February 04, 2011, 08:42:37 PM »
I transferred some playlists to my 8 GB MicroCenter microSDHC card via Media Monkey.  My clip+ displayed both 'music' and 'playlists' files that were created but was unable to load any playlists.  It either displayed an error message trying to read the card, got stuck while displaying 'loading' or just kicked me back out to the sd card menu.  However, it played the songs in the 'music' file without a problem.

The card seems to be fine.  I've used it in my cell phone and the playlists load without a hitch in media monkey on my laptop.

Anyone have a similar problem?

When you say 'playlists' and 'music' files, are you actually referring to directories?  Are your playlists in .m3u format?

It may be noteworthy that you observe inconsistent behavior.  What exactly is the error message that you get?

I guess it may be related to relative/absolute paths. Check the content of your playlists in notepad or something.

Don't know what you mean by directories.  From the main menu of rockbox I'll select:
Files  =>  <microSD1>  =>  Playlists

Yes, they are .m3u playlists.

The error message reads "Error reading playlist"

So you are, in fact, talking about a file named "playlists.m3u"?

No, I get you now.  "Playlists" is a directory in which I've placed several .m3u playlist files.  When I try to load these playlists I'll get the error message.  But when I play the music files directly from the "Music" directory, they play without a problem.

If you are able to play music from the uSD card without trouble then it makes me suspect something is wrong with the playlists.  If you create a playlist from within Rockbox and save it to that location are you able to later play it?

Do certain playlists always give the error message and others always display "Loading", or does it seem random?

I updated rockbox to version 3.8 and now the problems have mutated.  After about 20 minutes of playback from files on the mSD card, the clip+ will just freeze in the middle of a track.  I have to hold the power button to shut down and restart.  This will happen whether I play an album from the 'music' directory or a playlist.  Navigation is also problematic.  The clip will freeze if I navigate through music files too much.  None of this happens with files stored on internal memory.  Anyone having the same issues?

I've been having the exact same problem as this with RB 3.10 installed with the installer. Nothing fancy.

Is there any fixes planned yet? Any way I can help?
