Fuze V1: car adapter mode not working

I posted this a couple weeks ago in the hardware forum but didn't get any response, so I thought I'd give it a try here.

Is car adapter mode expected to work in RB 3.7.1 on a Fuze V1?  I was trying it today and it seemed to work the very first try, but has not worked since.  On the first try playback continued while connected to the USB car charger and paused when the car was turned off, as expected.  However, after that first apparently successful try, anytime I connect to the car charger the player stops playback and goes into USB connection mode (where you get the USB plug graphic on screen and all the controls are disabled - like when connected to a PC).

Is anyone else successfully using car adapter mode with a Fuze V1 or is this feature not quite stable yet?

This sounds like a bug in the USB driver that was fixed a couple months back on the Sansa players.  Try a current build and see if its fixed.

Sorry it took so long to reply.  I've been really busy and didn't get a chance to install the latest daily build and test this again until a couple days ago.

Anyway, the USB connectivity issues seem to be worked out now and it behaves as expected.  However, I'm getting a lot of squelchy noise now when connected to the USB charger.  I don't remember noticing anything like that previously.  Anyone else have noise problems with a USB car charger?

Usually that means your charger isn't properly isolating the player from car's alternator.

Tried it again and it actually seems OK now.  The noise only occurs during Rockbox boot.  Once Rockbox actually loads the noise stops and it seems fine.  I could have sworn on the last try the noise persisted after startup, but after a couple days of use now it's worked perfectly.

And in practice, the noise during startup doesn't really matter as Rockbox starts quicker than my car stereo, so I never hear it anyway.  When I tun on the car, by the time the stereo is outputing sound, Rockbox has already loaded and resumed playback.  It sounded really bad when I was plugging/unplugging the USB manually for testing, but that not something you would really do in normal use.

So anyway, I've been using it for a couple days now and it's working great.  If you plan on leaving your player in the car most of the time, it's definitely the way to go.
