Welcome to the Rockbox Technical Forums!
I don't know exactly what I did, but after deleting, re-installing and reflashing with a different version of the OF, I now have a working Rockbox installation on my H340! (If someone had told me 5 years ago that I would be playing Doom on it, I would have had them committed to a mental institute...)Thanks a lot for your help!
I recently picked up an Iriver H340 in a car boot and I would love to figure out how to install Rockbox. Thing is, not matter how manner times I read the manual for installing Rockbox it frightens the life out of me, its seems so damn technical.

Installation is rather simple: you get the original firmware file, run Rockbox Utility's installation and point it to that file when asked. Rockbox Utility will patch the original firmware file and place the result on the player. Then perform the firmware upgrade of the player and you're done. The only known issue is that some players require flashing the firmware that gets placed on the player twice (seems in this case its been a bit more reluctant though).
You could try to flash the unmodifed firmware (the one which you give to Rockbox utility), to see if your player accepts the file. If it doesnt, try another firmware version.
