No Ipod Classic in DFU mode Found
« on: February 02, 2011, 03:39:25 PM »
Hello people,

I have an Ipod Classic 160gb (thick) that im trying to convert to Rockbox.

The first problem I encountered was that the Winusb.inf file provided in this link:

http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/IPod_Classic_iLoader_Installation

Doesnt seem to work for me. I managed to set the Ipod in DFU mode, the system detects it and I have to point manually to the file, but while installing it says that there was a problem while installing the INF file, so I downloaded the second set of drivers posted on the above link and they install without any problem.

Now my XP detects the Ipod in DFU mode (I can see it listed in the hardware manager and USB connected devices) but when I open the UMSbootipodclassic.exe it says "no ipod classic in dfu mode found" even if clearly my system detects it.

Any ideas on how to solve this? I searched the web, wiki (including discussion) and this forum and couldnt find anything on this.

Thank you in advance.

Rockbox won't work with the 160GB iPod Classic, due to it having a hard drive with a CE-ATA interface; we currently don't have a driver written for it.

Additionally, Rockbox on the iPod Classic is a very, very early port still, so don't expect much in the ways of many features.

Sorry, I just realized that where I said Thick, I wanted to say Thin.

I got it working by simply triying on a friend's computer with windows 7, now I have rockbox on my Ipod Classic, but the only problem I have is that when I plug it in my Macbook it says "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

I got this a minute ago, now im investigating how to solve this. If anyone has an idea on what could it be I would appreciate some help :)

Thanks and sorry for the typo!

Glad you got it working. :)

As for the issue you're having with your Mac... I've gotten the same message on mine as well. I can't quite understand why this is so, because Windows and Linux see the partition on the iPod's hard drive as FAT32. My guess (and I do mean guess!) is that iLoader probably does something just slightly non-standard that makes OS X think that the drive is formatted as something else.

Perhaps someone else a little more versed in this knowledge can comment on this?

[EDIT] Turns out OS X bitches at devices formatted as Superfloppy, which the iPod Classic is in this case.
