It looks like you didn't actually provide it with a firmware file when prompted. Go back and reinstall, and this time when it asks you for a firmware file, provide one of those listed versions. Thats the key, you have to give it a firmware to patch, not just download it to your player.

I gave it the "bootloader-fuze.sansa" when prompted. I even tried the V2 just for kicks.
Is there some way of installing the bootloader manually? As always, I can't find any specific instructions for doing it the old way.
It seems to me the installer is refusing to install the bootloader because it doesn't recognise the Sansa firmware, but both versions I've used seem to be in the list.
Does anyone know if the letter "A" at the end of the firmware number is wrong? Or should it maybe "V1" rather than "V01"?
I really wish there was some specific documentation relating to things like this.
torne:
bootloader-fuze.sansa is the Rockbox bootloader. This is not the right file; the utility downloads the bootloader (and all other rockbox files) from rockbox.org automatically. You need to provide the original Sansa firmware file so that we can patch it. When it complains that it's not recognised, it's not checking the version which is installed on your player, it's checking the file you provided - it doesn't matter what's already installed on your player since the bootloader install process will replace it anyway.

Rockbox Utility gives a detailed explanation about which file to provide. What is unclear about the displayed message
--- Quote ---Bootloader installation requires you to provide a firmware file of the original firmware (bin file).

Press Ok to continue and browse your computer for the firmware file.

Isn't the "(bin file)" indicator enough that a file with extension "sansa" is likely to be the wrong one?

We DO have instructions. Detailed instructions even.
sonicjesus:
Ah.
Works fine now.
Thanks, people.
