Stop/pause after each track? Resume after auto shutdown?
Chronon:
There is also a patch to pause between tracks here:

Yes, in theory this is possible. But in practice it is extremely in-ergonomic. I would be adding a single track to a single-file tracklist all the time. (When in the process of falling asleep this is simply not practicable).
[I don't need playlists by the way. I always listen sequentially through audio books. I only need basic ergonomic functions not to lose to position where I left last time. No automatic pause after each track and and a sleep timer (to have at least a work around), which is not static, are a reason to sell my player :| (If I don't want to - or am not able to ;) - fiddle around with patches...]

Losing the position in a (many-level) folder tree can be very uncomfortable. My old player resumed at the right position in the folder tree. (Even when playback stopped automatically at the end of a folder and the player shut down automatically).
As I said, I might be spoiled by my old audiobook-friendly iAudio player. But I'm a bit surprised that (in my personal opionion!) very basic (and important) features were implemented in a 6 year old player, but not in rockbox with the many great advanced options! :| (E.g. speed control is nicely implemented and some themes are really good!).

Perhaps you could try the patch in FS#9114 that Chronon suggested and see if that helps it meet your needs? The patch appears to be in reasonably good condition; if it solves your use case then maybe someone can fix any remaining issues with it and get it into the build.
The Rockbox playback system works entirely in terms of playlists, either explicitly created ones or dynamic ones created from folders or database queries; the position in the folder tree is not something that Rockbox preserves. When there's no current playlist (because the last one played to completion) then there is no playback state any more.
Changing this would be difficult, and it's not entirely clear from your description what you expect to be preserved.. I don't understand exactly where you expect it to resume. I assume you're using automatic folder advance?

Here's a recent compile for the Clip+ with the persistent sleep timer patch applied. It's probably not going to make you happy, but it was lying about, so what the hell.

Sorry for my bad English, I try to make it clearer with an example:
Let's assume I'm listening to a track inside \AUDIOBOOKS\Literature\Mann\Zauberberg\CD3. When all tracks in folder CD3 have been played, playback stops and the player does an auto shutdown after a while. When I switch it on again, I have to manually go to \AUDIOBOOKS\Literature\Mann\Zauberberg\CD4 (or CD3). My old player started with the first track inside folder CD4 - I liked this very much! But this is not a huge problem! As I said, many features for rockbox are really great!! Maybe I'm too much a Pawlov dog conditioned to the behaviour of my old MP3-player? ??? ::)
Thanks for your friendly and fast replies and help!!
Yours, Florian
