Most power efficient CODEC for the COWON X5L
« on: January 30, 2011, 07:16:39 PM »
Hello,

I looked around and didn't find a wiki or post that really addressed this question.  I found the CODEC efficiency wiki but the x5(L) wasn't listed.

Does anyone have a rough idea if Vorbis (-q8), FLAC (level 8) or AAC (256k CBR & 320k CBR) is most efficient for Rockbox?  That is, least power hungry and better battery life.

Thank you!

Looks like MP3 is probably your best bet.  FLAC is faster but on a hard disk player all those spin ups to rebuffer are going to hurt battery life a lot.

Thank you very much! I was at that page and searched for Cowon instead of iAudio. Found the D2 but didn't find  the X5. Duh! Thanks again.
