Ipod video (5th gen) need to keep reinstalling rockbox
« on: January 29, 2011, 07:02:09 PM »
Why do I have to keep reinstalling Rockbox on my ipod. It works great for a few days then I turn it on and its back to ipod again. When I run the installer, it always says the bootloader is already installed.
Also this thing worked fine for a couple of years. It just started doing this

Are you sure you're just not booting into the OF?  What happens if you reboot back into rockbox?

I have no idea.  Check the manual or the Apple docs to see how you reboot a Video.

I fiured it out. If My Ipod is turned off and I plug it in to the PC, it will let me load songs but when I disconnect it, it goes to Ipod. If I just turn on my ipod and then plug it in to the PC, it shows the usb icon on the ipod and I can load songs and disconnect and Rockbox is there :) :) :)
Thanks for the help ;) and I was probably missing something very simple. I just don't mess with my Ipod much anymore.

It's not whether it's turned off, it's whether you have the hold switch turned on. As described in the manual, the hold switch determines whether Rockbox or the Apple firmware is started at boot time. If you make sure the hold switch is off, then it will always load Rockbox.
