audio problems
(1/1)
misterT0AST:
Hello there o community of Rockbox forums! This is my first post!
I installed rockbox especially to be able to use iboy, and play some gameboy games on my 2GB ipod nano.
Everything seems to be working fine, but I can't hear any sounds, everything I hear in my headphones is a weird buggy rythmic noise, which (I figured) might be a deeply distorted, unrecognizable version of the actual audio I am supposed to hear in the game.
After finding this out I tried to play the version of Doom included in the installation of Rockbox, and again, there was absolutely no sound to be heard.
The music (the mp3 files) plays fine, but in conclusion I can hear absolutely no other sound in Rockbox.
What's the problem?

Doom doesn't have music, but it should have sound if you've enabled it in the menu. Maybe its turned off in rockboy as well?
misterT0AST:
well, maybe sound is turned off in Rockboy as a whole somehow, despite having selected -72db of volume (still, the mp3s play fine)
but I have uninstalled and reinstalled Rockbox a couple times already and it seems weird that as soon as I start Rockbox for the first time after every installation, the sound is already muted?!
Is it supposed to make some kind of clicking noise when navigating menus and folders? Because all I can hear is complete silence until I play a mp3, or start iboy (and then get the glitchy background noises)
by the way, thank you for the fast answer :P

I think -72dB is about mute on your player. What happens if you turn up the volume?

When you reinstall it doesn't change your settings, so since you muted it, then reinstalled, its still muted.

Never heard someone mention that.

The clicking noise that the iPod OF makes? That's from a piezoelectric speaker in the iPod itself. Rockbox doesn't use the piezoelectric speaker, but there is an option for enabling keyclicks in menus. Check your player's manual for information on how to enable that option.
