Sansa Clip+. Saving battery during menu display.
« on: January 20, 2011, 10:15:36 AM »
Hi,
I noticed that when you navigate trough the menus, the option where the cursor is over is highlighted from the far left of the display until the very end at the right. Could it only be highlighted until the last word of the option?
That is, currently the sansa clip is like this

Now Playing

and what I would like to see is

Now Playing

Could this really save some battery life?
I recognize that it probably looks a little uglier, but well...

Thanks

It's unlikely to make any measurable difference to battery life. OLED displays do draw more/less power depending on how many pixels are illuminated, but this is a pretty small change in the proportion of pixels.

I don't know if this is a small change in the proportion of pixels. From what I can see in this picture

it looks like this pixels could represent around , i don't know, 20% of the total of illluminated pixels. But I guess that if you take in consideretion the battery drained from music reproduction, this is maybe just a small saving....

That doesn't mean it will draw 20% more power; there is a base load for the display's drivers to be powered up and active at all which won't be affected. You would save significantly more power by just reducing the contrast on the screen overall.

The player's display is turned off most of the time with normal usage patterns; the average power consumption of the device under normal use as an audio player is probably not significantly impacted by the display *at all*.

Easiest thing to do would be to change the Line Selector Type from an inverse bar to pointer.
