Rockboy

I was just wondering what type of emulators rockboy has. I know you guys have GB and GBC emulators. Is there more or is that it?

You're obviously confusing two different things.

Rockbox - open source jukebox firmware. It's a piece of software that you can install on some MP3 players. Apart from playing music on such devices, it also has some plugins, which include games, a MPEG video player, a Gameboy emulator named Rockboy, a Chip8 game emulator, and a ZX Spectrum 48k emulator.

Rockboy - Gameboy emulator that runs as a plugin under Rockbox. More information here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginRockboy

In conclusion:
Rockboy is a GB emulator plugin for Rockbox!
There's also a Chip8 emulator and a ZX Spectrum emulator, as well you can also play Doom on Rockbox. Once there was ongoing development of a SNES emulator in a patch on the tracker, but but development stopped(?) due to lack of interest from the people that were developing it(?) and currently it doesn't work anymore(?).

And no, we won't code any more emulators (or any other features) for you per request. If you're interested on it, either stand up and actually start working on it (that's how everything in Rockbox was made), or sit down and wait for anyone to do what you want (and it might never happen).

I hope you're less confused now and that you know the answer to your question :)

Note: "(?)" = needs citation or verification

You get the ROMs by dumping them from the mainboard of the Midway Pac-Man arcade machine that you hopefully own.

Anything other than that would be unlawful.

I don't think that downloading ROMs of games you own would be out of law (at least under the Portuguese law). But this is only valid for the games you own their physical support, in this case, the cartridge.

Use at your own risk. Remember that while Rockbox and Rockboy are opensource, that doesn't make it legal to play pirated games (most GBC ROMs are not opensource!).

There are a couple of links at the bottom of the PluginRockboy page to pages with public domain and/or homebrew ROMs.*

*: I guess they technically aren't ROMs if they didn't get dumped from some sort of ROM but hopefully people know what I meant.

The legality or otherwise of ROMs is a non-trivial question - it differs from country to country, and I doubt it has been tested in many.  As a result, no discussion of where to obtain these ROMs is permitted on these forums.

Homebrew/those with a redistributable licence is obviously different.

I have a Ipod 5.5 Gen (Video), and was wondering if there was a special version of Rockbox that runs a faster Rockboy? Maybe a patch somewhere, or an older version of Rockbox?

It's pretty darn slow, and here I was thinking the Ipod Video would be one of the faster candidates for using Rockboy.

No.

The Video has among the slowest CPUs (second only to older ipods and the old archos players).  I would not have picked it for general purpose computing.

The Video also has the largest and slowest screen, so an unfortunate proportion of the already-limited CPU power is spent updating the screen instead of actually emulating the gameboy.
