iriver H1xx CF Mod - Transcend 400x compatibility?
« on: January 15, 2011, 07:05:43 AM »
Hello,

I have a rockboxed iHP-120 and and will be doing a 32GB CF upgrade shortly.

Does anyone have tried a Transcend 400x CF?

http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=264&LangNo=0&Func1No=1&Func2No=13

Looking in misticriver, taperssections and rockbox pages and forums I haven't found any report about this compatibility.

I am thinking of getting this card instead of the Kingston 133x, as the Transcend 400x has a reasonable price, should be faster and implements  more completly the ATA specifications, according to this review:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A3Q8IJNTT67R8O/ref=cm_cr_pr_auth_rev?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRecentReview

Furthermore, there is also a reported issue with the Kingston Elite Pro 133x:

Any opinion will be very appreciated!

I just performed the CF-mod with my H120 using a Transcend 400x UDMA CF card and the adapter from dealextreme.com. Prior to installing the CF card, I flashed 7pre4 bootloader and flashed the latest release firmware 3.7.1 (both rom and ram image).

All works great with the reported caveats related to bootloader USB mode. The player is very snappy when navigating (with dircache enabled, right now).

How do you flash the 7pre4 bootloader?  I can't seem to figure it out.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

Hello,

I have a new Trascend x400 64gb card and I´m trying to do the CF mod, but once time I have flashed the RIver and changed the HDD for CF card, I always find ata -1 error.
Do you know why is it? I have the card formeted as FAT32 too.
Please, let me know if you know how to do.

Best regards

I am not an expert about modding yet, but I have read all forums on the subject and from what I understand so far, I would say that the actual 7pre4 bootloader can only support up to 32GB. It "could" possibly go beyond, but the person who created the 7pre4 bootloader is not developing it anymore and it seems like nobody has proper knowledge to further develop bootloaders for an old mp3 player that is becoming older and older, even though it's still a very good player! I will mod my H120 very soon and I would love to go beyond 32gb, but I can't bypass 7pre4 bootloader limits... I must do with it!
