Hi, I am new here and only signed up to share this info I just found. I have a V1 Fuse that I've used awhile with Rockbox. Works great but I had a reason to get a couple more of these. I just ordered and received two more remanufactured Fuse V1 models and am installing rockbox on these.
This was my first time installing rockbox and it didn't work. I used the auto installer. First I checked the fuse for the .bin file name and version. It was the V2 version, and the 2.xxx version number, not the V1, but it is a V1 original Fuse with the rotating disk for the input buttons. Well, the auto loader told me it was a V1 and so it wouldn't load the V2, so I went ahead and loaded the V1, since it is a V1 Fuse. Well, it all seemed to load fine, but when it came to the end process where the Fuse would update to the new firmware, it would not do it. The original Fuse firmware was still in place on reboot - no Rockbox. So I then went ahead and tried again with the original V2 firmware to just see if it would update properly with that. It did. Then I tried the Rockbox manual method and set it up with the V2 Rockbox using the original V2 firmware .bin file. This also worked fine. It now has rockbox on it booting normally. Haven't done much with it yet, but assuming Rockbox is OK now on this player. Also, I used Vista 32 bit operating system and the latest current version of original firmware and latest Rockbox for V2.
What I don't get is how the original V1 Fuse ended up with V2 Fuse original firmware on it to start with and then also would not accept a V1 original firmware. Rockbox automatic knew it was a V1 but couldn't handle this with V2 on it. I think this may be related to other people's problems with recent remanned Fuse V1s. If they are fooled like me in thinking it needs V1 firmware/Rockbox it won't work. Must use V2 Rockbox if it has V2 on it to start with. Also, KUDOs go to the whole Rockbox universe of developers and people involved. Rockbox is just awesome. Love the EQ and improved sound features it offers! - Paul

Just to add: Got the two new remanned Fuse V1's from Overstock.com, but don't know if this is unique. Likely many of these have the V2 software on them now. Others would have to confirm.

Ok! Just did some more reading up on the Rockbox site and now realize that V1 firmware and V2 firmware are often used on the V1 or original Fuze model, not just for the Fuze + model, which is what I was confused about. So my above comments all still apply. Have to install using V2 if you started with V2 and use the manual method. Have to install using V1 if you started with V1.
Here's a question for the experts out there. Are there any noticeable differences between a V1 original Fuze and a V2 original Fuze? If so, any ways to otherwise improve a V2 to make it better? thanks! - Paul
