How much space should be left free for Rockbox?

(1/1)

Carson Dyle:
When filling the internal storage space with music files, is there some safe recommended amount of space that should be left free for Rockbox to function within?  So that it can build and update its database and write whatever other files it needs to.

LambdaCalculus:
Rockbox doesn't need a whole lot of room to install initially (about 11MB for most targets), but I would give it at least 70MB if you plan on adding a bunch of themes, Doom, pacbox, and MIDI patches, and to let the database and Pictureflow cache build.

Your mileage may vary, but this is a rough estimate.

Carson Dyle:
Thanks.  Any need to leave any space at all on secondary storage such as the microSDHC card in a Sansa Fuze or Clip?

Chronon:
Not really.  Fill it to the brim.  :)

Lear:
If you want to create bookmarks, you may need some space on secondary storage (depends on settings).
