Autoupdate hints

(1/1)

steelman:
Hello.

I'd like to suggest an improvement for the database autoupdate, especially for players on which Rockbox do not reboot after umount/eject/disconnection (if what http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/DataBase says is still true). Either on USB disconnection or on reboot the autoupdate process should check for /.rockbox/autoupdate.hints file which would contain a list of added/modified(/deleted?) to check. After checking all files from the list the file should be deleted. Such "hinted" autoupdate could be much faster than it is today.

I've devised this when experimenting with podcasts which I'd like to see in the "New Podcast" custom view right after I pull the plug from my player.

What is your opinion?

Llorean:
And what program is going to generate this hints file? Anything that could do this, could also just update the Rockbox database as it syncs files.

steelman:
And is there "anything" that I can put into a bash script next to rsync? (pun intended ;-)
