New Inserted Version Of Album Won't Show Up
« on: January 05, 2011, 05:46:01 PM »
hi

i deleted a album months ago and recently deleted it off my ipod using windows explorer. it was a flac album so i had to go into the hidden directory on the ipod in order to add it and delete it. well i recently went to add in a import version of the same album with added bonus tracks but after i synced the ipod and rockbox it showed only the older version of the album. how can i have it show only the import version? i did notice that the import version wasn't fully tagged in its properties. so the album name in its tag wasn't filled out. could that have anything to do with it? can anyone please tell me how i can successfully add the import version and have the data of the old version of the album deleted? thanks!

take care.

Are you using the database?  Have you updated the database so that it sees the changes?  You can also use the file browser to browse your music.

hi

yup, i'm using the database. and i have updated it using general settings-database-initalize now and update now (btw does it matter which option i choose first). i have it on auto update too. isn't there a way to delete the album using the rockbox menus itself? i can't remember how.

Yes, you can delete items using the file browser.

How did you delete the files from your iPod?  They could have ended up in a "recycle" folder and are still being detected by the database.

oh ok thought so. can you tell me how to do that?

i deleted them from the ipod using windows explorer. i went to the hidden directory for the rockbox where the music is located and deleted the folder. it was a flac encoded album. i just did a search on my rockbox and apparently they're on my ipod cause it found a track i searched for. however i forgot to mention that the original album name and the import version have the same name for album name - i should've added import or something to the name to find them better. but the 4 added bonus tracks to the import edition don't have any file info to it. just file names. so the album name isn't written in its properties. so i guess i should just tag the flac files for the bonus tracks and resync? got any suggestions?

Windows is probably putting the files in a recycle bin that's located on your player.  You can try the "disktidy" plugin to try to remove this and other unwanted files left over after a USB session.

Any reason you're storing the files in a hidden folder?

yeah i use windows, that's probably why. i will try disktidy and report back here.

isn't the music files by default stored in a hidden folder on the ipod for rockbox? when i wanna add flac albums i go to the ipod drive, go to the option in windows to show hidden files and folders, click on newly revealed "IPOD_Control", then into "Music" folder, and then paste the flac albums into that folder. when i disconnect the ipod i reinitalize and update the ipod and it shows the flac albums. for mp3 stuff or videos i add them using this program called Floola located at http://www.floola.com/home/. works pretty good together for me.

btw can you tell me how to delete files using the file browser? cause like i said i forgot. thanks.

You can put your FLAC files anywhere you like.  Rockbox's database will find and index them.  Putting them in a more convenient location also makes them easier to find in the file browser.

I'm glad to have helped.  :)

Just as a note, Rockbox doesn't have any special requirements on where to store your files.
