I have an iPod 6G 160GB 2007 Edition, not the 2009 one. Am I understand this thread correctly that there is no Rockbox or other OS for this specific iPod version available?

Not exactly, see the wiki:

Ah, ok. Thanks and great work. Maybe I'll give it a try when my iPod is back from repairing the LCD. In case I install this unstable Rockbox version, is there a relatively easy way to switch back to the original software?

Further comments or recommendations for a new player would also be awesome.  :)

Thanks!

Depends how easy you think those instructions are.

Is there any easy way to identify which iPod classic is which? I've tried looking at the Apple page but sometimes they're referred to as 1G-3G, sometimes 1G-7G?

I want to pick up a 160GB one from ebay but a little unsure as to how I can get someone to check what generation it is?

I've been running Rockbox on a 1G nano for years but thought I'd see if I can help out with bug finding on a port with more storage space :)

Any help much appreciated!

Paul.

i'd go with a new one.... High future potential, because it's still in production, great storage and solid platform.. Why risk getting a half used one then  ?

Price, why else? My 2nd hand nano has lasted 5 years as well so what's your point?

Finally got my 6g working tonight, pretty neat so far. Do the current themes work on this or am I stuck(not complaing) with the default theme?

Hey guys,

Great work on the iPod Classic port (running a 1G 80GB). So far it has been working great, with some minor glitches. Up until now I did not have any problems, that where unsolvable with a reboot. However, now the emBIOS menu tells me the following:

Code: [Select]
Rockbox does not seem to be installed. You need to extract it to the root directory of your iPod.

Press any key to return to the menu.

How would I go about fixing this? I can get into the UMSboot function I can get it to show up in Windows (7 x64), but I only see the UMSboot folder(?), which is 63.9 MB if I remember correctly. Is there another way to show everything that is on the HDD, so I can unpack Rockbox again?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

You should be able to launch the Rockbox fallback image via emCORE's "Tools" menu.
After that, connect via USB and extract a new build as normal.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my 160gb (Thick model) Classic 1g. I can install the Emcore firmware, but when I open the fallback Rockbox image and connect the iPod to my PC it comes up as Removable Disk G: with 0 bytes of space. So I can't copy the rockbox file, or anything else for that matter

I know this is very alpha software but can anyone help me?

I couldn't find that in iLoader, but I read on http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/ILoader iLoader is no longer supported. So I just installed emCORE and the latest version of Rockbox. It is now initializing my database again. Thanks for the support.

Hey, I finally found this thread!

Always I want to connect my IPod classic 2nd Generation to my PC (Linux/WinXp, I tried both) it's closing automaticly after about 3 min.
Do you know how to fix this? Any updates planned?

Thanks!

//EDIT: Found the thread about the fix! http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,28562.0.html

Dear all.

Can anyone clarify what the "partial" under "power management" means? I kind of think that charing under Rockbox is maybe not possible (but that would make it very unusable) or does it charge slowly or...??

Best regards

I suspect it refers to the very short battery life in Rockbox.

Any hope for a breakthrough on the battery issue.  I can't wait to make the jump!  I've been a long time Rockbox user on my Archos JBR v1.  I'm using MediaMonkey  and have been having sync issues with my iPod Classic 160GB
