Different hard drive interface

Specifically, the 160GB Classic uses a CE-ATA interface for the hard drive. Until someone figures out how it works, that model is out of the loop.

And what is the interface used in the other iPod Classics?

--- Quote from: Wikipedia ---CE-ATA is electrically and physically compatible with MMC specification. CE-ATA uses MMC connector on host devices and matching flex cable or circuit connection on CE-ATA hard disk drives

Can't code be reused from ports that use a MMC card (ex: Archos Ondio). I'm new to this and just trying to help speed the porting process. (my iPod has been waiting for Rockbox for a long time and finding out that mine is the only incompatible classic caused my soul to shatter into a million flying pieces  :'( )

Assuming they use the same CE-ATA interface, yes.  However, since the archos device is almost a decade old, its unlikely to be the same as shipping in modern devices.

wolftail:
Isn't CE-ATA supposed to be a standard thing? How can there be more specifications/interfaces? :/

CE-ATA is a standard, but every implementation of it is a unique physical piece of hardware that requires its own software to use.
