Recorder crashes while recording
« on: December 22, 2004, 02:00:15 PM »
The recorder (jukebox 20) crashes while recording but I don't know why.

It doesn't do that on a regular basis or always in the same situation or at the same time, it just crashes randomly when it's recording.

The archos utility wich checks the HD says it's OK (naturally, since it seems do to nothing for checking the HD integrity)

Even with the latest formware from rockbox (installed via Windows) it crashes, but with the rock firmware the crash consist in the fact that I cannot stop pause or do anything than shut it down when it crashes while recording, with the archos firmware the screen goes black and the recorder stops.

The battery seems good, I also tried with the power supply connected

Anyone has any idea?

Anyway Thanks A LOT FOR YOUR EFFORT, FOR YOUR TIME SPENT MAKING THIS WONDERFULL FIRMWARES

Please go to Menu->Info->Debug->View disk info and tell me which disk model you have.

Thanks For Your Reply

This Is The Hard Disk Model

Hitachi_DK23DA-20

The Problem Is Still There, It Keeps Crashing, And I've Found One More Thing: With The Rockbox Firmware The Battery Life Is Very Shortened, Don'T Know Why, But If I Lunch The Original Firmware (Latest Version) The Battery Will Last Longer.

Please Help
Thanks A Lot

The battery life issue sounds interesting. I'd like to send you a special test firmware for you to try and see if the battery life improves.

As for the crashes, the DK23DA disk is infamous for the Red LED Death problem. It is very sensitive to vibrations, and we have yet to find a way to recover from the errors.

thanks for your reply, I'm very interested in testing your battery application since I had to go back to archos firmware because of this problem.

For the HD problem: I always experience the crasches while the recorder is in a totally still position, ie on a table, is there a test I can do to check the hard disk integrity/affidability better.

Thanks again

http://linus.haxx.se/ata_standby_test.zip

It is a daily build with a change in the ATA driver that does STANDBY instead of SLEEP when spinning down.

Please let me know how it works for you.
