.oma files on sansa clip.V2

(1/2) > >>

batman52:
Hi all, I have just bought a refurbished sansa clip.V2 as a damn cheap rockbox player.
- as a small side note, I am not completely happy with a small background noise that you can clearly listen  to when you are in a silent room at low volume (exaclty what I bought it for :-( ) -

Besides all the other nice features of rockbox, I wanted to use my player with a huge bunch of .oma files, that a friend of mine collected during the years and "gifted" to me (he used to own an arcaic sony mp3 player). Unfortunately noone of those seem to work as when I select it, the player just skip to the end of the playlist.

Can someone help me to understand if I will ever be able to play those files? Is it a bug in the plugin or just a non-supported format? I could not find clear explanation on how to recognize the format/container for those kind of files...

Llorean:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMG_Audio suggests they're likely to be an encrypted Sony format and thus unplayable. While some OMA files may be unencrypted, playable ATRAC audio, others won't be and Rockbox cannot support DRM encrypted files.

It's more or less up to the user to provide non-encrypted files.

LambdaCalculus:
I moved this topic, and want to step in to mention that .oma playback is via a codec, not a plugin. Please keep this in mind.

saratoga:
If they're unencrypted atrac3, they should play.  Otherwise, its normal for them to be skipped.

I see... is there a way to check whether are they encrypted or not? (I'm running ubuntu)
