best way to transfer music

Hi I have an ipod 5.5g 80gb player I would like to know if entering diskmode is better for file transfers or using the new multimedia mode in rockbox 3.7.1 just want to be error free.

Hi B7k,

if you connect to your player to your computer, does it appear as a drive in your explorer? (if you're using windows...) if it does so, then just copy your music via dag and drop to your player, or what I prefer, use file copy utilities like "total commander" or "teracopy" to copy or move files to your iPod.

Errors hardly occur, when you copy files, except the connection is being cut off.

Don't confuse multimedia mode with MTP mode, that's something completely different. Check the manual for further information regarding multimedia mode.

I have been using rockbox for sometime sence 3.1  but for the longest time Multimedia mode = USB mode  was unstable and using the ipod in disk mode by pressing select and play at boot up was the best way. My question was regarding the Multimedia mode = USB mode in 3.7.1 is it stable for file transfer or just a good remote control?

The Multimedia mode (one of the choices for USB HID mode) is good for using your iPod as a remote for your computer; the manual can explain more about that.

For me, disabling it on my iPod allows the iPod to function with USB transfer mode.

Just to be clear, USB HID doesn't negatively impact transfers to the device.

Using your iPod clickwheel as a mouse can even be kinda fun

Some people just simply would rather the device didn't enumerate as a human interface device.

Also, some users do notice a slight speed increase during transfers using disk mode, which is more noticeable on some models than others (speculative, as it's not been backed up by throughput data that I know of).
I have noticed it myself, but the speed-up isn't worth the hassle of switching to/from disk mode in my opinion as the gain is quite marginal.

It shouldn't do no, but there is a bug in an old version of OSX (IIRC) which doesn't play nicely with HID so it was necessary to disable it.

Well this is interesting if it's not the way I transfer  files to my player then what causes the file corruption in the .rockbox folder? Theirs  files with weird hieroglyphic letters, is it a rockbox internal problem is my ipod not shutting down right or could my hdd be going?
