H340 Formatted - Can't get it to work now :o(
(1/1)
bobbyboulders:
I formatted my iriver immediately upon mcafee detecting a trojan horse trying to get onto my dad's computer from it whilst at home for christmas. Trouble is, I did this pretty flustered and didnt realise what it might do to any original firmware etc. and now my iriver is in-between the original interface and rockbox's.
When you turn it on it reads
rockbox boot loader
version 5
battery 3.96v
and stays on this screen unless you press the play and rec buttons together. Then it will go into the original iriver software page, but theres nothing within the files (obviously as I formatted). But, it's not just empty, it then freezes on a file list, with one file, the name of which is jargon.
I've tried reinstalling rockbox but it still wont get past the bootloader.
Pressing the reset button does nothing.
I've put the hex file in the player's folder and this isn't resolving anything either.
To get to the bootloader USB mode I have to press play and rec buttons together on boot up with the USB cable connected to PC. Then, when I safely remove it and unplug the backlight stays in and doesnt turn off unless you hod down the stop button for approx. 7 seconds
I'm frightened i've fried the thing, is there anything that can be done?
Manual install?
PS: I got the hex file from this site's archive and my player is certainly not a US version
Post Merge: December 26, 2010, 01:14:44 PMIt appears to have miraculously worked all of a sudden. I can't explain it.
All I did was boot up the old firmware by holding rec and pressing play. I read "original firmware not detected" or similar. I tried it again, read the same but it then booted.

The file i get on the list when I press NAVI is
D__(korean character?)__'(korean character?)D___C
It'll stay on this screen until you leave it alone and it goes back to the main menu.
Totally bamboozling
Post Merge: December 26, 2010, 01:24:17 PMPPS: I formatted from windows, not the player
Post Merge: December 26, 2010, 01:30:51 PMFormatting from the original firmware menu on the player has now appeared to make the player functional. I will just have to boot into the original firmware each time I use it now unless someone can tell me how to get rockbox booted up again
yapper:
You should just be able to re-install Rockbox the way you originally did. See the manual for the options if you can't remember:

Install Rockbox again but leave out the bootloader part. You can do this with Rockbox Utility (to be exact, you can even use the Automatic Installation of Rockbox Utility. This will also install the bootloader, but since you need to manually invoke flashing the bootloader file using the original firmware just leave out that step). Or use the manual instructions according to the manual (which is basically just unzipping the build zip to the player)

rockbox successfully reinstalled after leaving out the bootloader. Job done, good work
