Help: I have 2 sandisk clip+ players having trouble with files
« on: December 25, 2010, 10:41:34 AM »
Hello
Don't shoot, I am new here. I am posting here because a search found one post that had matches to what I typed. (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,25726.0.html)
Nothing else was even close.

I have a 4G and 8G Clip+ and so far playing is not a issue but file cut and past is (in the other post  brand of memory and file copying were brought up) with both.

It started when I went to copy the 4G sdhc to my newer 8G clip+ I got.

I am not shure If there is any connection  between the two so i'll bring up one at a time.

In "RockBox Info"
Ver r28834-101214

This ver. is on both, Also the Firmware is the same V01.02.15A on both.

I had a Kingston 4G MicroSDHC with MANY songs and sub directorys I thought I used to copy my songs to the 4G clip+ using the copy past in RockBox.
Later during testing I went to copy out to the same chip and later a 8G (same brand) I had past errors. the second one I never figured out, But the first was this....

The file "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.mp3" would not past till I changed all the "." to "_" (left the .mp3 part) on this file. Strange because this same file went from the chip to the 4G Clip+ with out issue. It also would not copy from one directory to another. Is this as simple as the code page in RockBox going from Latin1 (ISO-8859-1) to Unicode (UTF-8)? I ask because I dont think Unicode was the default (and how it got changed I have no idea).

The 8G clip+ is a bigger Issue (it is also why I started testing both) with cut and paste.... It locks up!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to load the files to my new 8G clip+ from the 4G sdhc but the first strange thing was I went to copy just the playlist file I had to the root and it did not copy or show any errors, So I did it again and it copied.
Next I went to copy past the music dir. from the sdhc to the unit, after the bar went back and forth a few times it just stoped. I left it there for a hour figuring it was just busy. NOPE.. Locked up. I reset and conneted the unit and card to a computer did a scan of the disk and cleaned up the lost clusters. I did this many times with same results. In the end I used a computer to read from the sdhc card and write to the 8G clip+.

Any thoughts or fix for this??????

Here is the info on the cards.

Both Class4 SDHC Kingston

Taac: 10.0ms

R2W: *2
IRmax: 100..25mA
IWmax: 5..25mA

Also I saw in hardware the 4Gb Clip+ had a I2SO of  240Mhz but the 8G Clip+ was 5Mhz for what its worth.

While I am here.. the shuffle only seems to work playing from a folder, RockBox just plays the playlist in order. I dont want to set shuffle in the repeat option because the list is the same one I use with the sansa firmware. Is shuffle not working?

And last, In the Fm radio there is a poping 2 times a second. I goes away if I let it play and go to a menu. Is there a screen update issue going on? I wonder if the signal strength updating is cousing this?????

Well, If I did something wrong I am very sorry, I am new here so I want to learn and also help you with good feedback.  As I learn I will do my best to post correctly here.....

Thanks for your understanding and help.

Great Idea on making RockBox. Look forward to see whats next for my Clip+.
