Moving files from ##Music# to RockBox Music folder
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:32:08 AM »
Same as the title.
My player is a Sandisk Clip+ 8gb

I can see music files I added originally in mtp mode they show up as being in folder ##Music# when I boot the RockBox firmware.

BUT when I connect to my computer I can see Rockbox files when I use mtp mode or original firmware files when I connect using msc but there doesn't seem to be a way to see both hence no obvious way to copy from one to the other.

My question is: Is there any easy way to copy from ##Music# to the rockbox music folder other than copy the entire collection back to your computer and changing connection mode???

Hopefully someone can understand my question.  ;D

TIA!

I'm afraid that
Quote
copy the entire collection back to your computer and changing connection mode
is the best way that I know of to achieve your goal.

Thanks for that I will take that as gospel as it says you are a RockBox Expert ;)

I was worried that this would have been a tedious affair but having just tried copying 4gb of files back to my computer I am pleasantly surprised by the transfer speed.

The real reason it irked me was because each time I disconnected the usb cable the original firmware popped up refreshing the media list (or some such message) this would take up to 5 minutes unless I forced a hard shut down. I am very happy with rockbox and would like to minimise the encounters with the original firmware you see.

Anyway having said all that maybe a function could be put in rockbox that allows you to move the entire contents of one folder into another. If that is not beyond the realms of possibility that is. If it's already there forgive me as I still have a lot to explore. :D

We have a wonderfully written manual that explains practically everything Rockbox can do, as well as the power and flexibility you have contained in that tiny little Clip+. :)

Have a look at the manual for your player here. If you have any specific questions about anything you may not understand, search here on the forums to see if someone else may have answered your questions, and if not, feel free to ask.

There is a way to copy/cut/paste folders or files from within Rockbox, but I'm not absolutely sure that filse transferred with MTP are all that easy to identify/navigate to - but as Lambda said, have a good read of the manual as that should help you with most other questions too.

And yes, it's a massive pain having to wait for the OF, I feel your pain  >:(
