No, i think that the best choice is debug the current version (ipod linux) for solve save/load bug and increase the performance. (currently already has a good performance).
(I know that nobody going to make this work, this is rockbox, not ipod linux)
i think it because if hwolf3d is ported to rockbox probably it will be very slow and unstable.
If my assumption is wrong, then I think it would be appropriate port hfolf3d to rockbox
Chronon:
I don't see why you would assume that something running on Rockbox will be unstable compared to something running on iPL. Anyway, this is for discussing ideas for Rockbox. If you aren't proposing it as an idea for Rockbox then why discuss it here?
Brahmmuel:
I'm sorry for bringing this old thread up, but I was wondering if it would be possible, and if anyone would be interested in porting Wolf4SDL to Rockbox. It's essentially an open source engine reconstruction of the Wolf3D engine, requiring the original game files to run properly, kinda like how Rockdoom/PRboom does for Doom engine games. The original version of Wolf4SDL relies on MAME OPL emulation code, which was GPL incompatible, but apparently the Debian package of Wolf4SDL purged the non-free code and replaced it with Dosbox OPL emulation code, thus making this particular version GPL compatible.
The thing about Wolfenstein3D is that it has a relatively slower gameplay and a simpler control scheme that I believe it would make it far more playable on Rockbox-compatible devices than Doom will ever be. The game doesn't exactly require quick reaction times or avoiding enemies as swiftly as a Doom does, so it kinda feels like the ideal FPS to play on a smaller portable device.
saratoga:
Looks like it would be possible, although I see some floating point stuff crept in there, so it might be a bit of work to remove. If you're interested, go for it.
Brahmmuel:
Well, I'm not really a programmer, but I do understand that the Rockbox team doesn't really handle this kind of stuff, so it was more of an appeal to anyone with actual programming skills who might be interested in seeing Wolf3d running on Rockbox.
