Game idea
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:37:34 PM »
Hello, I liked the Doom game for the Ipod nano, and i was wondering if it would be possible to get Wolfenstein 3D on it as well. Like scroll can be to change weapons, select to open doors, Menu to go forward, next track to go right, and previous track to go left. I hope it is possible it is a classic game, Thanks

Check and see if they ever released the source code under GPL compatible license.  If not, then it would be quite hard to port it since you'd basically have to rewrite the game from scratch.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is based on an engine that would prove too much for many DAPs to handle. The original Wolfenstein 3D is not under the GPL; it's still under a non-GPL compatible license.

Google wolfendoom. It's an add-on for doom that is an exact replica of wolf3d. Runs very smoothly and looks nicer than the original

If that add-on works with PrBoom (the engine we based Rockdoom on), then feel free to try it out.

So I can just add the WAD and problem solved?

Some seem to work

I have them from here:

EDIT: (Link removed; links to copyrighted WADs are not allowed!)

Maybe I'll try a few then I will make a wad pack, if somebody's interested

Please don't link to copyrighted WADs here on the forums. If people want them that badly, that's what Google is there for.

This should be user created content  ::)
There is no copyrighted material except for maybe spear of destiny.
I dont really remember what page I posted.

Right now people have to go by trial and error and see what WADs work.
I tried them all and maybe 50% work.

Nevertheless, user created material or not, please respect our request and don't post links to WADs. The same goes for links to ROMs.

All content is copyrighted by default.  If it doesn't bear a license that explicitly allows redistribution then it shouldn't be linked here.  People can find material on their own and judge whether or not they wish to download it.

in ipod (i test in 5.5g) is possible play wolf3d with hwolf3d (ipodlinux)(I'm assuming that you have ipodlinux + ipod loader installed)
hwolf3d is bugged in save/load

0.- download hwolf3d from : http://zeroslackr.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/zeroslackr/packs/Media/hWolf3D/src/

1.- Put all those files in a root folder called "hWolf3D"

2.- Add a line in loader.cfg (ipod loader configuration file) like this for Wolfenstein 3D Retail:
Code: [Select]
Wolfestein 3D Retail = (hd0,1)/linux.bin /mnt/hWolf3D/Launch/Launch-Wolf3D-Retail.sh

3.- modifi 2 last lines in "hWolf3D/Launch/Launch-Wolf3D-Retail.sh" (open it with note pad) like this
Code: [Select]
cd /mnt/hWolf3D/hWolf3D/Wolf3D-Retail
exec /mnt/hWolf3D/Wolf3D-Retail/Wolf3D-Retail

for play, you need put Wolfestein 3D retail files (.wl6) in "hWolf3D/Wolf3D-Retail" folder .You can find several versions on the web but none is the original version.
Non original versions may cause critical bugs
For get the original version you can search in google for Wolfenstein 3D retail steam files (wolfenstein 3d content.ncf) or  "MU_410B61ZR62"

Note:
if you have noticed this not only supports Wolfenstein 3D (Shareware and retail), also supports Spear of Destiny (Shareware and retail) .. for play Spear of Destiny the process is similar

At least the file HWolf3D.c is GPL and written in C.  Are you suggesting to port this to Rockbox?
