USB connection
ogl:
Hello everyone!
I am new to Rockbox. I just installed it on my fuze after reading most of the manual. However, there are a few things that I still do not get. One of them is the use of the USB connection. I get that using the USB connection places me back into the original firmware of my player. However, when I read the manual it seems to indicate the I can connect to my computer via USB and still be able to use the player, which would be great, but I can't seem to manage it even when pressing "select" and "Start".
I am reading the manual's instructions wrong? The sentence structure of this section is very confusing. Here is what is says:
"3.3. USB Charging
When running the player can be charged over USB without connecting to your computer by holding Select while plugging in. This allows you to continue using the player
normally"
What does that mean?
Thank you
AlexP:
It means hold the select button on your player (usually the moddle button, check the manual), and while keeping it pressed down insert USB, keep holding for a few seconds to make sure, then let go.
Your player should now be charging and not in USB mode. Note this must be done from within Rockbox, not when it is turned off.

Thank you for the reply and explanation. I have to say your explanation was a lot clearer than the manual's. I tried it and it works!
Thanks again.

I have a Fuze v2. I've found that if I'm running Rockbox I can just plug in the USB cable and it doesn't reboot into the OF. Is it not supposed to work like that?
What's trickier is after being in the OF and having transfered files to the internal flash or microSD card, keeping the OF from updating its database when you disconnect the USB. The only thing I've found is to turn the Fuze off first before disconnecting the USB plug. Then booting Rockbox. Is there an easier (faster) way?

The Fuze v2 is a special case at this point of its development. Previously, it would reboot to the OF when the USB cable was connected while running Rockbox. This was causing problems for some users, so the reboot was disabled and now it goes directly into charge mode.
Once the USB code for the Fuze v2 is a little further along, plugging in the USB cable while Rockbox is running will enter USB mode and the select key will need to be pressed to enter charge mode.

Be careful doing this. Forcing a shutdown while UBS is connected can cause file system corruption.
There is no known way to disable the OF database rebuild. One thing you can do to help is to remove your microSD card before connection. This will reduce the number of files processed during the database rebuild. Use a card reader to change the files on the microSD.
