Music File Management
(1/1)
Buckeye:
I'm very new to Rockbox. I just installed ver. 3.7.1 on my Sansa e270. I am running Windows 7 home premium. I read through the manual but still have questions pertaining to the best Way to manage music files. First off; I cannot see the database files installed on my player from my computer when using file manager. I see the rockbox folders but can't seem to find any of the song files. The way that I am managing my music now is simply dragging and dropping music files or folders from the music folder on my computer to a songs folder that I created under the files folder in Rockbox. It seems to work but is there a better way? I would like to manage my Rockbox music database from my computer.
Thanks

This is not possible (yet). The only way to sync music from/to your Rockbox player is using the file manager of the operating system you're using, like you described (dragging and dropping files and folders).
Personally, I don't enjoy music syncing software and I think most of the developers are of the same opinion, that's why there's no software for syncing.
AlexP:
The database files are the *.tcd ones in /.rockbox but they aren't very useful.
You can use any synching software you like, the database will find the music when you initialise/update it (you probably want to investigate the autoupdate setting).

what has worked best for me is to create a folder on the host computer, call it newstuff, playlist, or whatever, but keep the size below the player's limit (8gb for example). then sync this folder to the rockbox folder with a robocopy script. So, then you'd just add/remove stuff to the host folder as needed, connect the device, then run the sync script which adds/removes files to rockbox to match the pc folder.
there are probably tons of mirroring programs that would work similarly if you don't want to use a script.
