Can't see certain songs on sansa e280

Alright, so I have my old sansa e280 here. I switched to Zune about two years ago and have switched back because the Zune's disc is scratched, I think. Anyway, I remembered that the reason I switched was because the sansa was having issues with turning off on its own, changing its volume, displaying song info incorrectly, corrupting files, stuff like that. In addition, it was very slow to load. So anyway, I backed up its contents and started adding new music. Everything was working fine, I added some Mika, some Bloom 06, some Lady Gaga...basically, everything that was in the main music folder on my computer. Then I went to the Zune's folder that is on this computer from me saving the music off the Zune after the last computer died a horrible death. The folders are by artist, so I added some AFI, some a-ha, some Apocalyptica, some Aqua...and I reached Big Bang. I'd been checking after adding everything to make sure everything was fine, and until I added the Big Bang, it was. Big Bang is a Korean group, and some titles are in Korean or Japanese. I don't know if this has something to do with it. Anyway, after adding the Big Bang, suddenly the device would show nothing but Big Bang. The computer recognised it, but the player did not. So, I formatted again and went to Google. In the process, I learned about Rockbox. I tried it out. So, I started adding music again to the now-Rockboxed player. Same order. Everything was fine...until Big Bang. The Rockbox firmware sees everything but the Big Bang, and the sansa firmware sees absolutely NOTHING.

...Please help D: I really like Big Bang and would prefer to have their music on the player if I can. All of my tags were done in Zune, so there's no reason any tags should be a different type than others...

EDIT: Also, I should add that in both the original case and the Rockbox case with the original firmware, removing all of Big Bang's songs from the player (And I only added six!) does NOT rectify the problem. In the original case, the device simply ceased to recognise anything. In this case, the device still showed nothing. The Rockbox firmware showed everything but Big Bang both with it on the player and, obviously, without it.

Also, I haven't added anything beyond Big Bang yet, but I do have other artists that will display foreign characters, if that's the problem...

EDIT2: Alright, I installed Mp3Tag to check the tags, and they're all ID3v2.3, both the songs that work and the ones that don't. Also, I have two songs that, despite me giving them English names because the Japanese have really annoying ways of naming some songs, still have the original Japanese titles in their filenames, and they both work. D: So I'm completely clueless...

EDIT3: Okay, I...I think I fixed it. Maybe. I formatted and reinstalled the Rockbox firmware a few times and also spent a good hour renaming all my Korean and Japanese Big Bang titles to English. I'll keep you updated, though, because at the moment the only two songs on the device are 'Dancing on the Moon' by Bloom 06 (to make sure non-Big Bang worked) and 'Lollipop' by both Big Bang and 2ne1. 'Lollipop' was not one of the songs I originally had an issue with, though. Not to mention it's not listed as just Big Bang. Nor did it have a Korean title. Honestly, I'm not sure why I chose it. My database won't refresh on its own, but I DID manage to do it myself. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Oh, also, I found out quite by mistake that I can control the global volume of my computer and also the playback of my Zune Player with the sansa plugged into the computer. Is that supposed to happen? .___.

Renaming your tracks to English should not be necessary.  Rockbox is not restricted to English language.

Unfortunately, I can't identify a specific cause for the symptoms you have described.  File system corruption can cause some of the problems you have described and this would be fixed by formatting.  However, I'm not certain that a corrupted file system could cause all of the symptoms you described (like randomly changing volume).

Rockbox has HID drivers that allow it to act as an input device for your PC when it's plugged in.

Sorry, but fixing FS errors by formatting is the equivalent of doing brain surgery with a hammer ;)

On Windows you can:

Right click the drive --> Select Properties --> Select Tools --> Error Checking --> Check Now
(Select the boxes marked "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors")

On *nix you can:

Use fsck
(I needed to ask Wikipedia about that one though ;))


Anyway, if you can back up your data somewhere...then formatting the player isn't so bad (but make sure you back up the data first, because you *will* lose it if you format the disk!) but you shouldn't have to format the disk just to fix file system errors that may or may not be present.

I wasn't saying this was a necessary action.  I only meant that the disappearance of some of these symptoms can be explained if they were due to file system corruption that was fixed by formatting.  I still think there may be other hardware problems at work here.

Caiman already formatted his/her player.  I was only trying to reconcile reported behavior, not advise on a course of action.

Hmmmm. Well, I remember when the volume would fluctuate (and so far it hasn't since I started using it again, but I'll tell you if it does), I'd be listening, minding my own business, not even touching the player and then suddenly BAM FULL VOLUME AAAHHH!  ??? As for backups, that's not a problem; I haven't added everything I want to yet. But I always do back up for this player anyway; I'm too familiar with it corrupting songs (Bad Track, I believe it says on the player in English) to not do so! :P And the Language...yeah, I missed the album name of their Japanese album, and it didn't cause problems...Ah well, at least the Korean titles aren't boxes I can't tell the difference between anymore (There's a font I found that can handle Japanese but not Korean, and it doesn't even give boxes for the Korean, just...spaces). Now, the error checking...I did that before formatting one of the times I formatted, and it didn't find anything D:

So far it's been working fine, but I'll need to use it more to be certain. I used to wear it on a lanyard around my neck before school, on the bus, in the cafeteria before school actually started, and then again on the way home. My brother stepped on it at one point, so the screen is cracked, but...would that have anything to do with it? It's certainly a well-worn player. I figured, it relies on Flash, right? Unlike the Zune which is a hard disk, right? So that can get scratched (and I'm almost certain it has, but Google is completely useless here; all I get is results for scratched screens and have given up (PROTIP: Use a screen protector.), which is why I'm using the sansa again...). But is there anything inside the sansa that I should be concerned about? o:

This page might be useful for choosing a font with the necessary glyphs.

To minimize the chances of file system corruption always unmount or "safely remove" your player when connected via USB.

Just keep using the player, making sure to avoid file system corruption and see if your player behaves normally.
