The positives of upgrading to rockbox, the negatives?
« on: December 22, 2004, 09:43:49 AM »
I have a rockbox 6000 on order and was looking into this rockbox to flash the os as I had heard of reviews complaining about its layout and navigation ability.

What is different in rockbox? Is there an easier way to control the volume than going into the menu, etc?

How about faster boot times?

Thanks, Derek

Start here:

then move on here:

But you would probably have discovered that if you had started here:

Excellent, thanks, after i try out the original os I will switch to the rockbock, a lot of new stuff.

Now, what I couldn't find out does the volume control work more easily?, I mean do u still have to go through the menu?

or is there some type of combination or hotkey for it?

If there isn't for the developers, it might be a good idea.

Thanks, Derek

Hi..

on the player, there is an Hotkey for the Volume...
simply press "Menu" and "+" or "-"  to change the volume in rockbox.

And i strongly recommend the use of Rockbox over the original firmware. ..its way better then the original... try it.. :-)

There are no negatives for me eversince I upgraded to Rockbox!!!

I am now on Vers. 2.5 with an Archos Jukebox Recorder modded from 20GB over 80GB to 137 GB just recently.

I hope the player never breaks as there is nothing comparable on the market!

I just wanted to say thank you for rockbox.I had an old Archos 6000 model I bought way back in 01 or 02 and started using it again late last year. One day out of sheer boredom at work I looked for any firmware updates and google directed me to this site somehow.I decided what the heck, installed rockbox and omg  :o .It's like a whole new player.

I don't know why the designers of the original Archos software didn't add even some of the simple stuff rockbox does. The factory version that I was using didn't even use the red light for the hdd  ::) I turned on after installing and saw the red light and was taken by surprise. Why add an led to an expensive piece of hardware when you don't even use it?Also somehthing I've noticed is the battery life is very improved.

Anyways, thank you for putting new life into my old Archos player. If anyone else stumbles across this site and is debating installing rockbox all I can say is do it!
