error opening acpiano[]
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:57:16 AM »
While trying to get my midi patch to run, the following was encountered when loading instruments:

error opening acpiano[].pat

This occurs no matter what the midi file I choose.

  • I re-downloaded the midi patch.
    I unzipped it.
I double checked the spelling of the acpiano.pat file before I installed it on my fuze v2.
    I installed the patch files.
I double checked the spelling of the acpiano.pat file on my fuze v2 /patchset directory.
I got the same results as before.

HELP!!!! (please)

Where did you get this patch set?  The set linked in the PluginMidiPlay page in the wiki has a patch named "acpiano.pat".  I have read that the config parser in MidiPlay is not very robust so it's possible (if you are using another patch set) that MidiPlay is failing to correctly parse the config file.  What is the actual glyph that appears in the patch name?

I got it from the link on this page: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginMidiPlay

That link was: http://squisch.net/rockbox/patchset.tbz2

The glyph appears on my fuze V2 screen as a very fuzzy square.  I have no idea as to how to decode/describe that glyph further.

The same error appears on every file I make effort to play.

Is the error caused by the program trying to open that specific instrument OR caused by a problem in the specific instrument selection?

If the source of the problem are the midi files themselves, I can try to get rid of that instrument in the midi file.  If this were the case, them every single midi file has this in it.  I'm hoping it's not the midi files themselves as this would require a lot of work and no guarantee.

I'm not sure how to proceed.

Maybe the patchset got corrupted during download or extraction.  I just downloaded the same patchset this morning and found the name of the patch to be simply acpiano.pat.

That's the odd thing about all this.  The name of the file is not corrupted when unzipped, when loaded onto the FUZE V2 or when I look at the patchset directory on my FUZE V2.

It only shows this file name when reporting an error.
