MIDI Files Directory
« on: December 07, 2010, 04:36:48 PM »
Forgive me for being unable to find information that might be more obvious to non-newbies.

I've just loaded 3.7.1 on my Sansa fuse V2 player and am learning things about rockbox options by reading the latesat manual and working through these posts.

I have yet to see anything that says where to place/load midi files on my device directory, as in, what directory and how to access them once placed.

Can someone enlighten this newbie?

Thanks

Put them anywhere you like and access them with the (Rockbox) file browser.  You might need to set the "view files" setting to Supported or All to see them.

Thanks!  I followed your directions.

I create a directory on the same level as the others.  It's a directory that is viewable at the same time as the standard selections so I can easily select it and see the midi files.  (support files is selected)

I tried to play some of the midi files and got:

error opening
/.rockbox/patchset/acpiano_.pat

(where the _ is a box type character)

Then displays the following screen:

plugin return error
#leak-file-handles

Can someone please tell me what the next step is to getting my rockbox to play midis?

Thanks again,

CoachN

WOW!  48 views and no response!

FYI - I got a lead on the problem from the following post:

I hope it leads me somewhere good.

Maybe, just maybe, none of those 48 people that looked knew the answer...

Yup.  That's what surprised me!  I'm glad I'm in good company and that I'm not the only one baffled.   ;)

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the first 48 views didn't know the answer. If it were a common problem (thus, people were likely to know the answer) searching would've helped.

As it is, does the FuzeV2 have enough RAM to load the patchset? I remember some of the AMSv2 players being short on RAM and I remember the patchset being relatively large.

Fuse v2 has 4Gb to work with.  I do not think that memory is a problem here.

It doesn't. It has 8MB of RAM

No idea how MIDI works, but if you try to load plugin data exceeding about 5 or 6MB, the plugin will probably fail on the FuzeV2.

So, then, how big is the patchset?

Would a RAM problem cause this error?

If the player doesn't have enough RAM to fit the patchset, playing MIDIs will be impossible whether this error is caused by it, or if it will cause another error you haven't encountered yet.

How big is the patchset (all of the patch files together, after unzipping)?

Th epatchset encompasses 28.4 MB in total as indicated by properties.

That's far larger than the "5 or 6MB" saratoga said is available, and larger as well than the total 8mb the player has. You won't be able to play midis without a much smaller patchset.

Assuming the midi_debug function works, the plugin should print MALLOC BARF over and over again if it runs out of memory, so this is probably some other problem (missing or corrupt file most likely).

I think thats just the size of the zip file you downloaded.  How many are you actually using in your file?
