So, are there any solutions or bugfixes to this problem?
Anything that will make a stable version work on a 4G?

It has been a while since the problems were reported in this thread.  Are they still present in the release version?  How about the current build?

Well, since my iPod 4G is running smoothly with the annoying original firmware, I kinda do not want to bust it up again - because a buggy Rockbox is even more annoying.

So, I think I would like to know beforehand if this problem was fixed, detected or even just tended to.

And yeah, people testing Rockbox is important - but it's not as if I didn't already spend countless hours without results on it...

The point is that 3.8.1 was specifically released to fix bugs with very similar symptoms to what you're seeing.

Interesting. In the release notes to 3.8.1 there is only FS#11746 which could be remotely related since it seems to be a database issue -  but the bug in this thread was data abort, not a freeze.

Well, maybe I'm bored in the next few days and I'll try it...

Current build has been running fine on my 4G for months now...admittedly I have a few patches in my personal build, but the current release and dailies are working fine for me*.

(*before posting I tested the current release 3.8.1 and the current svn head (29817) on a greyscale 4G with a 32GB CF, and two iPod Colors (one 32GB CF one 60GB HDD))

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
