Computer Will Not Recognize Rockbox - Sansa Fuze V.1

Hi there folks

First off let me say I'm loving everything about Rockbox thanks to the Auto Installer that now allows numpties like me to be able to join in the fun!!  I guess the only downside to this is that you will now get even more unintelligent questions from people who don't really know what they are doing.

Like this one.  From me:

I have a Sansa Fuze V.1 8gb with a 16 gb micro SD card and the latest Sandisk firmware installed.  I have recently auto installed Rockbox V 3.7 and all is peachy.

I downloaded some new songs the other day and when I tried to load them onto the Fuze (using copy and paste) I found that my computer (running Windows XP) refused to recognize the Fuze while Rockbox was running.  In the end I had to start up the Sansa firmware ("on" button while holiding "left" on the scroll wheel) in order to get the computer to realize that there was something connected to the usb port.  I managed to copy and paste the music files with no worries (I dumped them straight into the sd card) and the Sansa firmware auto updated when I unplugged the usb cable (which took about an hour).  When I rebooted into Rockbox I managed to find the files eventually and they are now accessible via the Database.

I've checked the manual (it suggests the player should be in MSC mode and that the USB HID feature should be disabled if problems are encountered) and the forum (apparently v.2 Fuzes must be connected via usb using the Sansa firmware but no mention of v.1) and I am now confused as to why my computer won't recognize Rockbox.

Can anybody suggest what I may be doing wrong?  I have set the Fuze to MSC mode using the Sansa firmware - is there a corresponding menu in the Rockbox firmware where I should also be doing this?  If so where is it??

I don't know if this is any help, but connecting my V.1 Fuze when the power is off connects to the computer using the SanDisk firmware.  If Rockbox is running when I connect, it connects through Rockbox.  I did set the USB mode while booted in SanDisk firmware so that it uses the MSC mode - can't do that from Rockbox yet.

Fuze USB support is only partial.  I had a V.2 Fuze for a while (scroll wheel broke and Sandisk replaced it with a V.1) and find that the V.1 USB support is much better than the partial support the V.2 has.  I'm happier in Rockbox with a V.1 than a V.2 although the V.2 display LCD was better.

I am running Win 7 64 bit and have no troubles connecting my Rockboxed Fuze (while running) and moving files to/from the device in Windows Explorer.  I have also run my V.1 from Win XP with even fewer troubles.  I'm sorry I don't have a decent answer for you!

Rockbox's USB mode is MSC (and HID if enabled).  There's no MTP support in Rockbox.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Chronon, my computer is running Windows XP service pack 3.  And when the Fuze is connected either 'on' or 'off' simply nothing happens.  No recognition at all.

I seem to remember when I very first installed Rockbox the Fuze WAS recognized by the computer but not since.  Initially the song database may have been under 4,000 songs but now it is well over 4,000.  Could this have something to do with it?  I remember reading about the Fuze not being able to deal with more than 4,000 songs unless the latest Sansa firmware was installed and a complete format was initiated.  I did both the install and format prior to auto installing Rockbox though but, as I say, the song database was probably under the 4,000 mark to begin with.  Could this be causing some kind of conflict somewhere?

I recently bought back my V1 Fuze from the guy I sold it to....too complicated for him, apparently, even though I offered to remove Rockbox. 

First thing I did was format it with the Panasonic SD formatter...http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter20.html and after that I installed RB 3.7.1. What might make this relevant to the OP here is that I had an old daily build on there before, and it would connect with the original Sansa firmware when I connected to the computer.

Now when I connect, it goes right into Rockbox....all you see is this....

so all the clutter from the original Sansa firmware is gone. So OP, maybe give this a shot?
