AlbumArt, 3.7, iPod Video 5.5, and iTunes (ugh)
« on: November 30, 2010, 04:48:18 PM »
Wasn't sure if I should append to one of the existing AlbumArt threads, but my problem is bit more unique...

Due to issues with my car kit outlined this thread: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=25970.0, I have to dual boot between RB and the OF, and hence am stuck using iTunes for the time being.  Like others, I not getting any cover art.  I've extracted everything to the proper format using iPod AlbumArt Extracter.  As a test, I placed a cover.jpg in one of the obfuscated iPod music folders, and the art will then display, but obviously that isn't a viable solution in my case.

Can someone point me in the correct direction as to what I need to modify in the theme files to correct this?  An example using cabbie V2 or something would be most helpful, then I could hopefully compare the differences with the other themes and correct them myself.

Many thanks.

FOLLOWUP:  Installed the latest build today, with same result.  Progweed said in the previous thread:

That's a common problem as Rockbox loads and displays themes in a slightly different way now, meaning that the code of the theme itself needs an update. This can easily be achieved with a simple text editor, usually only one or two lines are missing. What's the name of the theme you are using?

I'm trying to use the FullScreen theme - I think the pertinent areas in FullScreen.wps are:

Code: [Select]
# preloading images
%Cl(00,0,200,200)

and

Code: [Select]
#album art
%V(60,0,200,200,1)%Vf(FFFFFF)%Vb(000000)
%?C<%Cd|>

I also like cabbie v3 mod, but can't seem to locate the correct lines in there, I'm sure out of ignorance.

Pehaps someone can tell me what I need to modify above...thanks.

If you are referring to this theme http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=1131&target=ipodvideo, it should work perfectly, it's not a theme problem

chileboy,

Have a look in the Rockbox Manual for other naming conventions for album art for use with Rockbox.

I've not really had much dealings with this myself, as using iTunes and the OF is an experience that I consider too painful to be worth it in any circumstance...but I can tell you with absolute certainty that you simply cannot fix this by modifying the theme files.

It is likely that:

/.rockbox/albumart/albumtitle.[bmp/jpg/jpeg]

is your friend in this situation.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

You were correct, thanks!  Once I moved the .jpgs to that folder, all was well.

I am confused as to why it didn't work before, however - the manual states:

Quote
You can place the picture in the same directory as the file, in the parent directory or in a fixed directory named /.rockbox/albumart/.

I originally had all the files in the parent directory of the music (i.e., iPod_Control/Music/, which I believe is the default when extracting the cover art using AlbumArt Extractor).  I also tried locating some files in the same folder as the corresponding ALAC - but the only thing RB would recognize at either of those locations was cover.jpg.

Thanks again.
