Can't enable "Directory Cache"

Can someone help me? For some reason, "directory cache" will not enable. I am prompted to reboot the device upon changing the setting but then when I go back to it in the menu, it's still set to "No" and given the amount of time it takes to change directories in the file view, it's clearly not working.

I am using an "Ipod 4th Gen Photo" and v3.71 of the Rockbox software.

How are you rebooting?

"Reboot" means shut it down then start it up again. You are probably hard resetting the player by holding menu+select, which is a physical hard reset, like hitting the reset button on a PC; this doesn't give Rockbox the chance to save any settings.

I tried both (i.e. hard reset and shutting down normally) and that specific setting is not saved either way.

Do any settings at all persist after a reboot?

I just tried turning "Shuffle" off, restarted, and yes, it saved just fine.
