fuze v2 rockbox 3.7 wake-up alarm
« on: November 26, 2010, 08:54:23 PM »
Hello Friends of Rockbox

I have been using Rockbox for a long time now and only recently discovered the "wake-up alarm" function, which was quite interesting for me, in the system/time menu in the unstable Fuze V2 RB version. I wanted to try it but then found out that also the new stable RB 3.7 had been released since the last time I updated, so I installed it first.
When I finally wanted to navigate to the wake-up alarm then the function had simply been gone. I looked it up in the Fuze V2 manual which said that it should exist. I also tried reinstalling Rockbox but the option didn't reappear.

As I'd really like to use this function: Does anybody know what this is about? Should the function never have been implemented in the first place? As a matter of fact, I never saw this wake-up alarm in action so maybe it just can't work on the Fuze...

this is strange, what could possibly the reason for "my" RB being "different"?

You do have the new version installed, I guess...

The wake-up alarm function had an annoying bug and when releasing 3.7, it had not been fully solved yet. The bug is that the player does not always shut down properly when powering down the player when the wake up alarm is enabled (and the tricky thing is that it only happens seldomly). Before the 3.7 release it was decided to disable this function in the 3.7 branch because of this bug.

After 3.7 a fix was made that should finally fix this bug. If no one runs into the bug again, the wake-up alarm function will be part of the 3.8 release (and is now already available in the "current build").

And I did experience the bug once.   Many times I setup a sleep timer and have a podcast playing for like 20-30 mins.   When I woke up the next morning with the alarm set, the battery was way low and the player had gone through my playlist of podcasts and into an audiobook I had on the player.

I have some suggestions for changes/features of the alarm.  Maybe someone could direct me to where to give them.
Main one would be ability to set wakeup volume.   Since I go to sleep sometimes listening to items at a really low volume, it would be handy to set the volume level higher for wakeup.

That's probably not the bug I was referring to. The problem I mean is that on shutdown of the player with wake up alarm enabled, the player does not fully shut down, instead it keeps showing "Shutting Down".

Ok.  Probably not.   I may have just missed setting the sleep timer and thought I had.

Thanks

You don't? All the alarm does is turn the player on and start playing music, so if you don't have speakers or loud headphones attached to the player, you won't hear anything.
