Ipod Video - identify_info.bin
« on: November 16, 2010, 07:48:43 PM »
I recently had Cycbot.B infect my home system.  Typing this from work.  I cannot find any unexpected .exe or .bin files on my 80 GB Ipod video other than "identify_info.bin"  Can anyone verify that this file belongs to rockbox.  I am about to take my ipod where it may come in contact with another computer and obviously don't want to transfer a virus accidentally.

I am running r28338-101023

I guess the thing to learn from that was noone else seems to be using that filename.  I am not computer literate enough to know if it was a common .bin that might be used as a trojan,  and the few results I found (maybe the first 3 from the google search) by searching the forums didn't let me know it was a relatively rare filename and not a good candidate for a trojan.

I really DON'T know how such things replicate other than reading about the one Sansa user who discovered some unknown EXE files on his device that were a virus...

thanks

identify_info.bin is a dump of your ipod's hard disk identification information; there's a debug menu option which creates it. It's not anything bad, but you don't need it, it's only for debug/development stuff, so you can just delete it.
