playback issues database sansa clip +
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:53:35 AM »
Hi - I just bought an 8gb clip + and got a 16gb micro sd card.  I synced my files in MTP mode from mediamonkey gold. I have the following database issues:

Standard sansa firmware - the database sees everything but can't playback lossless wma tracks (skips the whole album).
Rockbox database doesn't contain anything on the external card.

I found the following, is this still the case that you can't update the database?

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=24343.0

I have a mix of tagged wma lossless and standard mp3's on internal and external memory.  Sync operations worked fine indicating that the player supported everything I was syncronising.

*frustrated*  I know the sound quality is inferior but my old creative v plus was totally seamless in this regard.
 :-\

Help me like my new bit of kit please!!

Latest release build of rockbox, sansa clip + 8gb.

I believe you need to use MSC mode with Rockbox, not MTP. So you may need to re-load all the files you had previously loaded in MTP mode.

Ok, haven't tried that yet (will do later), but - more issues:

If I browse folders and find the files I want to play (lossless wma in this case), it looks like it's going to play then skips the whole track.  I thought rockbox supported lossless wma/wma pro?

Well, WMA lossless and WMA Pro are two different things.....and from what I can see athttp://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CodecPerformanceComparison there is support for Pro but not WMAL. If that page is not up to date, I'm sure one of the devs will say so here.

One other stab in the dark....if you ripped those files with WMP, was the copy protection option unchecked?

yep no copy protection, maybe I should just batch convert the lot to lossless flac/ogg?  Which would be best in terms of preserving tags?

Pro yes, Lossless, no.  WMAL has never been reverse engineered and no one knows how it works except for microsoft.

ok - so a two pronged attack tonight:

convert to flac lossless (or ogg).
wipe player and set to msp mode
re-sync

will post when I've done this with the outcome:

Update
=====

I changed to MSP mode (wiped the player and mem card first)  That fixed the issue of the db not recognising the extra memory card tracks.

I set my player up in media monkey to show my player as not wma compatible and to convert any wmas to flac on sync.  This is a bit wasteful as it converts even lower bitrate wmas to flac.  What I'd like is a way of detecting lossless wma's in media monkey and only converting those to flac.

I have a solution to the problem.  Thanks for your help guys.
 ;)

I was wondering if you could provide some more information about the firmware version and rockbox version...maybe even the sd-card you're using.

The thing is, I'm having a similar problem right now. I purchased the Clip+ 8GB a month ago and bought a 16GB microSD card this week. I use MediaMonkey to sync my player in MSC mode. Everything works fine except the files on the microSD card not showing up in the database. If I boot into the original firmware, i can access them without any problem.

I tried so many different things to get it working and right now I'm not sure what else there is to try.

Thanks in advance,
cipher

I use Mediamonkey, and I have the 8GB Clip+ and 16GB card, and I see the card tunes just fine. Have you initialized your database?

I reset/initialized the database several times, reformated the card, reinstalled rockbox etc.. It's really strange.

To provide some more info, this shows up if I enter the menu "System -> Rockbox Info":
HD1: not present

However, if I enter "System -> Debug -> View disk info" it shows:
[microSD 0]
SD08G Rev 8.0
Prod: 1/2006

[microSD 1]
SU16G Rev 8.0
Prod: 10/2010

So the card is somehow working in Rockbox, too. Can you tell me how the filestructure with a mounted sd card should look like? I've read there should be a microsd1 folder somewhere.

It should get mounted to /<microSD1>/.  It should be apparent in the file browser.
