iHome iP90 and Rockbox
« on: November 11, 2010, 03:39:10 AM »
First off, I want to say hi and I've been a fan of rockbox for a while, it sure makes the iPod suck less! :D

But of course, this is not what this topic is about.  :P

Anyway, has anyone tested out the iHome iP90 with the rockbox firmware? I've been shopping around for iPod/iPhone alarm clock docks and I would like to know if this dock works properly with rockbox as I am considering buying this. Now before you go RTFM, I checked the accessories list and I didn't see that particular model listed.

Thank you in advance. :)

Generally speaking, we don't know the answer to this.  Maybe someone who does know will see this (and can also fill in an entry in the page yapper linked).

If this item is still available through retail outlets, you might be able to find a place that will let you try it out in the store.

Ah, I see. But I will keep that in mind, its just that I've always wanted to get an iPod dock for the longest time but I don't want to be forced to use Apple's stupid ass firmware. I do UNDERSTAND that accessory support is partially supported in RB. BUT, if I do end up getting it, I'll be sure to submit my findings to that list.

Of course, its a wiki, anyone can edit it.

If one looks at the wiki I think some safe assumptions can be made.
1 - Charging will work.  ;)
2 - Audio out will almost assuredly work.*
3 - Remote control is unlikely to work perfectly, but there is a better-than-even chance at least the main features will work.

*The devices which fail to play audio have thus far fallen into two categories:
1 - FM transmitters which fail to even power on without some yet unknown handshake from the ipod.
and
2 - Stupid car audio devices which see the device as an iPod and expect iTunes loaded music.

1. Good
2. That's cool; I'll have something to fall back on just in case if the alarm clock features on the iHome don't work right yet (the alarm clock application on RB that is XD)
3. I'll keep that in mind, if I do decide to bite the bullet and get this device, I'll be sure to report my findings to the iPodAccessories wiki.
