Fuze V2 question
« on: November 10, 2010, 08:51:40 PM »
Okay, this is the first time I have ever put Rockbox onto a music player. I have the Fuze V2 and went to install using the utility and it came up with this box :
"Bootloader installation requires you to provide a firmware file of the original firmware (bin file). You need to download this file yourself due to legal reasons. Please browse the Sansa Forums' or refer to the manual and the SansaAMS wiki page on how to obtain the file. Press OK to continue and browse your computer for the firware file."

What do I do next?

You could start be following the instructions as given to you by RBUtil:

Browse the Sansa Forums, refer to your players manual, or the SansaAMS wiki page for information on acquiring the FW file you need.

The links are supplied.

After that, simply point RBUtil to this file when asked to do so.

But I don't know what I am looking for. I tried to search for the file, but got nowhere. Would I be able to use the Sansa updater to find out the firmware version and if so, would that help me?
EDIT : I opened it up and the Sansa Updater says I have version 2.03.33 firmware.

Now it throws up a couple of errors. The first says "[ERR] OF File provided is Fuzev2 version 2.03.33, not for Clipv2"
The second says "Could not load C:/Users/.../fuzpa.bin" (i took out the personal info)
What now? It seems as if the link for the Fuze V2 version of Rockbox is actually the one for the Clip V2. I made sure to click the right button. What went wrong?

Are you sure the Utility is set for a Fuze and not a Clip? Your error message seems to suggest that.

Agreed.

Either auto-detect failed for some reason (possible) or you manually selected the device incorrectly.

There's a small chance you might find the manual installation procedure easier, but if you're not comfortable using the automated installer I wouldn't recommend it.

I am unsure about the legality of providing a pre-patched fuzpa.bin for you to simply drop on your player, else I would.

I am about 99% certain it is questionable at best, else Rockbox would supply such binaries and the installation procedure would be as simple as "Point the installer to X:\\ and click "Ok"" or "Download <file>.<extension> and place it at the root of your device, unmount".

However, the installer is what it is, and as long as instructions are followed it works.

It seems like (assuming auto-detect is failing) it is a simple case of you needing to specify the device type (the name of your DAP ie. "Fuze V2") and the mountpoint (ie. X:\\ (where X is the drive letter assigned to the device when connected)) of your device.

Assuming the device is in MSC mode*, you have downloaded the correct firmware file, given the correct device type and mountpoint, and pointed the installer to the correct path of the FW file you downloaded installation should be painless and for most, is.

Over time RBUtil has been designed to be as foolproof as it can possibly be.

*Settings → System Settings → USB Mode → MSC

I was editing my last post while you were posting your last reply, you may want to review it.

Hope things go well this time.

I wouldn't, but it doesn't really matter, you're just going to point rbutil at it immediately after you download it so you could put it on a CD-R for it matters.

OK, now I have a problem. I installed everything and that seemed to have worked fine, but when I disconnected my player and tried to start up Rockbox, it got stuck on the splash screen. (Rockbox logo and "Ver. 3.7" is all that is on the screen) I can't figure out the problem.
EDIT : I looked around and this thread is the issue I am having. Help!

I have similar problems with my fuzev2.

RBUtil (under Linux) does not autodetect my fuzev2. Instead, I select "Sansa Fuze" from the list and browse to the mount point for my fuze's disk. (There is no "Sansa Fuze 2" or similar in the list, it's just "sansa fuze").

I next downloaded the file linked above (I got it from the RB wiki page for the AMS chip based players, but it's the same link as above).

I get the following error: "Original firmware unknown, please try an other version. Tested Clip versions are 2.01.16, 2.01.32".

I don't know why it says "...clip versions..." but could be a typo in the FBUtil code.

These versions are not available from Sansa formus. I would prefer not to resort to manual install. Any thoughts? Anyone else running into this?

Manually installing Rockbox is really not as hard as it looks. Give it a try! :)
