new find in an old Clip...

(1/1)

I was dissecting an old Sansa Clip<V2>, just now and you wont believe what I found!

The layout of the board includes an area for a ceramic antenna!

I was shocked because ceramic antennas are use a lot in portable RF transceivers and transmiters but not much in receivers. I don't know if this means anything, but it would seem like a waste of space to put another antenna in the design if the Sansa Clip is only a receiver....

Sansa clip v 1 & 2:
The 'place holder' is located between the two volume control switches near a chip marked: (0219 ccpz 834). No idea what the 0219 chip is for though...

And yes I realize this topic is old.

Post a picture so people can tell what you're talking about.

The 0219 chip is the FM tuner chip (SI4702).
This chip needs a 32768 Hz clock, either supplied externally, or generated internally from a 32768 Hz crystal.
I guess the unpopulated space is for a 32768 Hz crystal.
