Sansa v2 attaching USB RB Ver. 3.6

I am a relatively new Rockbox user, but I am also a computer programmer and have read much of the manual and searched the forum.

When I plug in the USB cable the Sansa turns on, boots, turns off, turns on, boots, etc., repeatedly.  This happens whether I have the device on or off when first connecting it.  If I first activate the Lock, the display shows "Hold switch on." then "Shutting down."  I cannot tell if it is charging or not.

Manual section 3.3 USB Charging reads, "When running the player can be charged over USB without connecting to your computer by holding Select while plugging in. This allows you to continue using the player normally."  This does not make a lot of sense.  How else but with the USB connected to my computer could I charge the device?

I would like to be able to charge the battery and upload music, podcasts, etc.  I have a 2GB MicroSD chip and have loaded several podcasts to that externally, but I want to be able to load music directly to the Sansa's internal storage.

As for loading music, the manual section 8.5.7 talks about USB HID.  When I go through the menus in the device, SETTINGS|GENERAL SETTINGS|SISTEM, the menu in the device does not have USB HID as an option.

Any ideas?  All help appreciated!

The section I put in bold type refers to being able to listen to the player while you charge it. If you just are going to charge it and load/remove content , then do not turn it on before you plug it in....it should then boot into the OF when you plug it in and allow you to charge and alter the contents. If it still is not doing so, then boot it into the OF and then plug it in.

As for your other question:

There was a problem with newer bootloaders and Rockbox 3.6 which led to this weird boot-reboot cycle. It was fixed in newer builds, you need to update. If you want to stay with a release - 3.7 just came out last week.

timbertoe:
Thanks.  I saw that 3.7 was just released, but I did not interpret any of the fixes as having anything to do with charging or booting.  I'll do the upgrade tomorrow and report the results.

BiG papi - What is OF?  Please be kind, I am a newbi!

yapper:
OF is the Original Firmware
