Ipod 5th Gen 30gig Exrutiatingly Slow Transfer Speeds
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:39:49 PM »
I have ipod 5th gen 30 gig

I used I-tunes to "restore" it and successfully installed apple software.  I then went through the rockbox gui to minimal installation.  It installed the bootloader only after I went into disk mode on the ipod and then paused upon "extracting" whatever the most recent stable build is.  Here's the situation.  Whenever I try to transfer files that are larger than a few megs, the windows transfer file window speed says it goes technically to 0kbps.  (I never left it there long enough to see what happens I just try to close it, it craps out, and I force reset ipod to clear the shit window out)

Is my hard drive dead?  Is there a way to test it?  This is so incredibly frustrating.

edit: just confirmed through i-tunes song transfer, It'll transfer songs at normal speed, then after 1-5 files it'll just hang there like the pos it is.

You could try Apple's diagnostic mode.

Which version did you install; the recently released 3.7?

What happens when you insert the USB cable? Does it stay in Rockbox with a picture of a USB connector on the screen, or does it reboot to a black-and-white screen with a "Do not disconnect" logo?

Try booting the ipod into disk mode with select+play; if it still doesn't transfer files properly while in that mode, then there's probably an issue with the hardware, though it may not be the hard drive.
