Battery Drain Issue
« on: October 31, 2010, 11:03:38 PM »
Hi there!

I'm new to this forum and have a little gripe about the RockBox OS on my 4G iPod:

Everything is great EXCEPT FOR the issue of battery power.  I may use my iPod, say, for 1 hour and before too long, it shows half power.  When I use it subsequent to that, power drops VERY quickly - within 30 to 40 minutes.

This does not happen with the proprietary Apple firmware on the device.

I was reading a few posts from 2007 about power draining from iPods,  but they did not provide the necessary insight to solve this issue.  It's now 2010 and a similar problem bugs me now with the latest build of RockBox.

As I said: all is good with RockBox except for this little power issue.

I hope since 2007 some progress has been made to deal with this annoying problem...

Please assist!  :)))))

Best wishes:

Try charging your player for a few hours and then running a battery bench:

We should get *better* battery life than the original firmware on a 4G ipod, unless your settings are very unusual. Do a full battery benchmark: the battery status display is not necessarily a reliable way to compare the two firmwares; the time it takes to go from fully charged to dead is.
